Studio Sofield

Introduction

William Sofield is an architect whose work offers an elegant response to the characteristics of neighborhood and the specific needs of modern life. Sofield immerses himself thoroughly in every project he’s involved in, often spending weeks on location, observing, talking and thinking, before he sketches his first designs.

Acclaimed as a modernist with a strong sense of history, William Sofield creates designs that respond to the characteristics of each specific neighborhood as well as the demands of modern life. Sofield immerses himself thoroughly in every project, often spending weeks on location, observing the area, talking with residents and thinking about what it would be like to live there. In 1996, he founded Studio Sofield with a commitment to the integration of synergistic design principles. For a designer in love with texture and nuance, William Sofield has fully embraced the opportunity to create both the exterior and the interiors of the Beckford buildings.

“Our goal was to bring a level of detail and
quality to the Upper East Side that has not been achieved in years. Studio Sofield has brought our vision to life. Beckford House & Tower has been designed to a standard that we would personally want for ourselves.”

“A building is the story of the people who inhabit it. The role of the architect is simply to give them the space in which to live that story out.”
